How do you stay up-to-date? Statistics change constantly. And there’s so much out there, how can you ever get your arms around it? We found a few great tools to help you. Book of OddsDid you know that in 2008, the odds of being injured in a golf cart incident were 1 in 19,100? True. Or that the odds a man brushes his teeth twice a day are 1 in 2.04 (US, 12/2003) vs. the odds a woman brushes her teeth twice a day at 1 in 1.76 (US, 12/2003)? (Seriously? Everyone doesn’t brush twice a day? Yikes.) Or how about this one? The odds a person will visit an emergency department due to an accident involving a desk, shelf, cabinet, or rack in a year are 1 in 1,149 (US, 2007). So be careful out there. You can search The Book of Odds by keyword or drill down by category. There’s something here that will fascinate you, I promise. And likely, there’s data here that will help you fill in a blank you’ve got… Gary’s Social Media CountHow many times this week has someone asked you for stats about how many people are doing this and that in social media? Yeah. Me too. So of course, we all know there exponential growth in usage of the social web applications. Gary Hayes (who from here on out, I will call Mr. Awesome) put together an amazingly cool Flash app, Garys Social Media Count, showing how active and dynamic this slice of our world is. You can see the stats as they change for today, the week, the month, the year. This is nirvana. That up there is just a screen shot of the awesome chart. Click on the site link to see it in motion. TTFNI know you’ll be busy watching the numbers fly by and looking up crazy odds. So I’ll let you go. Until we meet again…. ~Wendy |
